Description

This course explores innovative artistic and architectural approaches to increase perceptual sensibility and develop a deepened grasp of the particularity of place. Methods will be introduced to help capture spatial moods and express them through artistic and architectural techniques. Course includes excursions to selected sites in Victoria, and based on the analysis of the places selected, participants develop projects using drawing, collage and/or sculptural materials. The concrete aim of the course is to support participants’ capacity for perception of natural and culturally shaped spaces, and to open up possibilities for new design ideas that can be used in artistic practice. Understanding Spaces will provide artists and architects with new approaches to drawing, painting and sculpture, and the development of site specific interventions and architectural design projects.
