Writing and Drawing for Non-Artists

$225, included supplies

Ask a group of adults to draw in public and most will nervously laugh.
In this class, we’re not exactly going to learn to draw. It’s more like we are going to learn to be okay with how we draw already.

This is a class about playing and trying and not giving a hoot about the outcome or what anybody thinks. It is largely based on the book Syllabus by Lynda Barry, and her other wonderful books about writing and picture making and not-giving-a-hoot-ing.

In this class you will:
• Colour with crayons
• Recite a poem
• Draw monsters
• Eat candy
• Record things you have seen and heard
• Make mini comics
• Think about stories & memories & images

Jacquie Rolston has been teaching art to kids and adults for over ten years. She is on a mission to make drawing not scary! After reading Lynda Barry’s Syllabus, she was inspired to create the course she’s always wanted to teach. There will be no technical drawing exercises in this class, no meticulously trying to capture the shading on a vase in pencil. This class is about your creativity, your stories, and the mystery of images.

Classes held at Old Foundry Building studios at Clark and 2nd.

Special Instructions

Students are expected to keep a journal, both writing and drawing, between sessions.
