Opus Together Program / Studio 101

Studio 101 supports artistic experiences for Vancouver’s inner-city youth.

Studio 101 is an Eastside Culture Crawl program dedicated to supporting diverse and engaging artistic experiences for Vancouver’s inner-city youth. Many Eastside schools are designated as inner-city and have limited exposure to professional artists and arts experiences beyond the classroom. Studio 101 brings school children into participating Eastside Culture Crawl artist studio spaces for free with hands on workshops. For many participants, it is their first time connecting with professional artists. The program provides students insights into the various phases of the creative process, while promoting creative confidence and fostering an appreciation of the visual arts.

This year, the program will be delivered in a format that will adhere to provincial health guidelines, and students will be sent a workshop kit with all the required supplies and the workshop will be delivered by a Crawl artist safely via video conferencing.

Elementary students from grades 4-7 from Britannia Elementary, Seymour Elementary and Xpey’ Elementary schools will take part in workshops to create photographic works, textile arts and mixed media items.

Studio 101 is coordinated by Matthew Holmstrom, Grace Lee and Erin Frizzell.

The program was conceived in 2007 by long-time Crawl artists Mira Malatestinic, Richard Tetrault and Kathryn Youngs, and is proudly supported by the Eastside Culture Crawl, Meghan Ellis, Ruth Scheuing, Sappho New Paradigm, Opus Art Supplies and The Vancouver Art Gallery.

You can donate to Studio 101 today and 100% of the proceeds will be donated towards the purchase of art supplies for Studio 101’s youth participants!
